Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated:
I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicating:
اللَّهُمَّحَاسِبْنِيحِسَابًايَسِيرًا
“O Allah! Grant me an easy reckoning.”
I asked, “What is the meaning of an easy reckoning?”
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied:
“An easy reckoning is when Allah looks at a person’s record of deeds and pardons the sins recorded within it. O Aisha! Whoever’s account is scrutinized in detail during the reckoning will certainly be ruined (meaning, they will face Allah’s punishment).”
Perfect Divine Justice
Allah states in the Quran:
وَنَضَعُالْمَوَازِينَالْقِسْطَلِيَوْمِالْقِيَامَةِفَلَاتُظْلَمُنَفْسٌشَيْئًاوَإِنْكَانَمِثْقَالَحَبَّةٍمِنْخَرْدَلٍأَتَيْنَابِهَاوَكَفَىٰبِنَاحَاسِبِينَ
“And We place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all. And if there is [even] the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as accountant.”
— Surah Al-Anbiya
Standing Directly Before the Creator
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Allah will speak directly to each one of you (on the Day of Judgment) without an interpreter, nor will there be any veil concealing Him. A person will look to his right to see if there is anyone to intercede or help, but he will see nothing except the deeds he sent forward. Then he will look to his left, and again see nothing except his own deeds. Then he will look straight ahead and see only the terrifying fire of Hell facing him. Therefore, O people, save yourselves from the Fire of Hell, even if it is with half a date.”
The Accountability of Wealth: The Lesson of Abdur Rahman ibn Awf (RA)
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once said to Abdur Rahman ibn Awf (may Allah be pleased with him):
“On the Day of Resurrection, you arrived to meet me the latest among all my companions. I grew deeply anxious fearing you had fallen into ruin, and you appeared completely drenched in sweat. When I asked you, ‘What took you so long to arrive here?’, you replied: ‘I was detained for questioning regarding the abundance of my wealth—how I earned it and how I spent it.'”
Hearing this, Hazrat Abdur Rahman ibn Awf (RA) began to weep bitterly. He then said:
“O Messenger of Allah! Just last night, a trade caravan of one hundred loaded camels arrived for me from Egypt. I give all of them away in charity (Sadaqah) to the poor and orphans of Madinah al-Munawwarah. Perhaps Allah will make my reckoning light and easy on that Day because of it.”
