The thirty days of the month of Ramadan hold a unique and immense significance for each of its ten-day periods.
- The First Ten Days: Rahmah (Divine Mercy)
- The Second Ten Days: Maghfirah (Divine Forgiveness)
- The Third Ten Days: Freedom from Hellfire
The First Ten Days: Supplication (Dua) to be Recited
اللَّهُمَّ ارْحَمْنِي بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
(Allahumma-rhamni bi-rahmatika ya Arhamar-Rahimeen)
Meaning:
O Allah! O Most Merciful of those who show mercy! Grant me Your mercy through Your grace!
The first ten days of Ramadan are the days when Allah’s immense mercy (Rahmah) descends upon us. It is only by attaining Allah’s mercy that one can find peace in both this world and the Hereafter.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “No one will enter Paradise or achieve forgiveness solely through their good deeds, without the Rahmah (mercy) of Allah.” The Companions (Sahabah) asked, “O Messenger of Allah! Not even you?” He replied, “Yes, not even me, unless Allah envelops me in His mercy.”
Therefore, during this first ten days, we must constantly weep and beg for Allah’s mercy and grace. This supplication should be recited as abundantly as possible during the first ten days.
The Second Ten Days: Supplication (Dua) to be Recited
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ
(Allahumma-ghfirli dhunoobi ya Rabbal ‘Alameen)
Meaning:
O Allah! Forgive my sins, O Lord of the Worlds!
The second ten days of Ramadan are dedicated to Maghfirah (seeking forgiveness).
During this period, we should reflect on our past sins with genuine remorse, weep, and make a firm resolve in our hearts never to return to those sins. We must seek sincere repentance (Tawbah) to rid ourselves of our transgressions.
The Third Ten Days: Supplication (Dua) to be Recited
During the final ten days of fasting, we must seek protection from the evils of Hellfire and ask for Paradise. Allah surely accepts supplications made with a sincere heart.
اللَّهُمَّ اعْتِقْنِي مِنَ النَّارِ وَادْخِلْنِي الْجَنَّةَ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ
(Allahumma-A’tiqni minan-naari wa adkhilnil-Jannata ya Rabbal ‘Alameen)
Meaning:
O Allah! Grant me freedom from Hellfire! And admit me into Paradise, O Lord of the Worlds!
