Ameerul Mu’mineen Umar (RA) once delivered a sermon on a Friday (Jumu’ah).
After praising and glorifying Allah, he remembered Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) and Abu Bakr (RA). Following that, he said, “Today, I had a dream in which a rooster pecked me twice. I interpreted this to mean that my lifespan has come to an end. It was a red rooster. Later, I related this dream to Asma bint Umays (RA) the wife of Abu Bakr (RA). She interpreted it saying, ‘A non-Arab will assassinate you.'”
Four days later, he was stabbed during the Fajr prayer at Al-Masjid an-Nabawi by a man named Abu Lu’lu’ah Fayruz. Subsequently, he attained martyrdom (Shahadat).
It had always been his constant prayer to die in the city of Madinah and to be martyred in the path of Allah.
