One day, two scholars from a foreign country came to visit Mullah Nasruddin. While they were conversing, one of the scholars looked at Mullah and asked, “Mullah, the value of truth is much higher than that of a lie in this world. Why is that?”
Smiling, Mullah countered with a question of his own, “Let me ask you a question in return. Gold is valued far more than iron in this world. Why is that?”
The scholar explained, “Iron is abundantly available everywhere in the world, which is why its value is very low. Gold, however, is extremely rare and can only be found in a few places. That is why gold holds such high value.”
Mullah immediately replied:
“The exact same logic applies to lies and truth. Lies are abundantly available from almost anyone in this world. However, finding people who speak the truth is extremely rare. That is why truth holds a much higher value.”
Lies will eventually perish; truth will stand the test of time.
