The Day of Judgement, when all people will be gathered together for accountability, will be highly terrifying.
People will suffer deeply from extreme thirst. On that day, to honor Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Allah will grant him a special lake called Hawdh al-Kauthar.
This lake is a unique gift given only to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by Allah.
This is mentioned clearly in the Quran and the sayings of the Prophet (Hadiths).
Allah says in the Quran:
“Indeed, We have granted you Al-Kauthar.”
— Surah Al-Kauthar: 1
When people asked the Prophet (PBUH), “What is Kauthar?”, he replied, “It is a river that Allah has gifted to me.”
How Huge and Beautiful Is It?
- This lake is so wide that it takes a whole month of travel just to cross it.
- The Prophet (PBUH) said its size is equal to the distance between the city of San’a in Yemen and the city of Madinah.
- Its fragrance is sweeter and better than musk.
- Its water is whiter than silver.
- The water in this lake comes directly from Paradise (Jannah). It flows into the lake through two channels—one channel is made of gold, and the other is made of silver.
- Believers will get to drink this heavenly water from the lake before they enter Paradise.
The Benefit of Drinking from It
The amazing benefit of this water is that whoever drinks from the Lake of Kauthar will never feel thirsty ever again in their life.
The Day of Judgement will be extremely long, lasting as long as a thousand years. On that long day, if a person drinks from this lake just once, their thirst will vanish forever.
How the Prophet (PBUH) Will Recognize Us
The Prophet (PBUH) will recognize the people of his community (Ummah) and serve them water from this lake. He said, “I will be waiting for you near the lake.”
The companions asked him, “O Messenger of Allah! Will you be able to recognize us among so many people?”
The Prophet (PBUH) replied, “Yes! When you come to me, your faces, hands, and feet will be shining with a bright white light because of the Wudu (ablution) you used to perform.”
Therefore, it is excellent to stay in a state of Wudu as much as possible, because it will make your face, hands, and feet shine brightly on that day.
Who Will Miss Out?
The blessing of drinking from the Lake of Kauthar belongs only to the followers of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
However, even if someone belongs to this community, they will not get this blessing if they did not establish their five daily prayers (Salah).
