The Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (peace be upon him – pbuh), possessed noble qualities such as truthfulness, loyalty, and trustworthiness right from his youth.
The people of Mecca would bring their highly valuable possessions to the Prophet to keep them safe as a trust (Amanah). He was universally recognized as trustworthy and strictly maintained the confidentiality of their trusts.
His reputation for speaking only the truth spread far and wide. It was his unique distinction that the Prophet never spoke a single lie throughout his entire life.
Therefore, the Arab people bestowed upon the Prophet (pbuh) the titles ‘Al-Ameen’ and ‘As-Sadiq’, which mean ‘The Trustworthy’ and ‘The Truthful’. Even in the derogatory poems written by his enemies, they referred to him as ‘Al-Ameen’.
Humility and Kindness
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was exceptionally humble and compassionate from his childhood. His ears were always ready to listen to the grievances of the weak and the poor, and he would help them with a deeply moved heart.
- Compassion for Slaves: When the Prophet (pbuh) walked down the street, slaves would approach him, hold his hand, and confidently share their grievances. The Prophet would never withdraw his hand until they chose to let go themselves.
- Humility in Public: He always walked with immense modesty. As he passed by, people would point at him and say to one another, “There goes ‘Al-Ameen’, the truthful and honest one.”
- Helping Neighbors: When going to the market to buy things, he would knock on the doors of the houses along the way and say, “Muhammad is going to the market. Tell me what you need, and I will buy it for you.” He would bring back exactly what they asked for. Furthermore, he frequently carried water to the homes of the elderly and helpless.
Consideration for Others
Under no circumstances did the Prophet (pbuh) ever display arrogance or consider himself superior to others.
- Mindfulness: If someone was sleeping nearby, he would walk past them very softly and quietly so as not to wake them up.
- Attentive Listening: Whosoever came to speak with him, he would listen intently and pay full attention to their words. He would respond only after reflecting carefully upon what they said.
- Honoring Everyone: Anyone who visited the Prophet (pbuh) would leave thinking that the Prophet loved them the most. He honored everyone to such an extent, acknowledging their unique virtues and treating them with utmost respect according to their individual status.
Those who saw the Prophet (pbuh) felt they had never seen anything more beautiful in their entire lives; his radiant countenance would soothe the very soul of the onlooker.
O Allah! Bestow upon Your Beloved (Habib) Muhammad (pbuh) an unparalleled honor granted to no one else, and shower him with Your grace! Ameen!
