Abān ibn Uthmān (RA) relates:
With the intention of humiliating and distressing Ḥaḍrat Abdullāh ibn Abbās (RA), a man went to the leaders of the Quraysh and announced everywhere, “Ibn `Abbās is hosting a banquet for all of you tomorrow morning.” After making the announcement, the man went into hiding.
The following morning, at mealtime, a large crowd gathered at the house of Ḥaḍrat Ibn Abbās (RA)—so much so that the house could not accommodate them all. It was only after inquiring about the sudden gathering that Ibn Abbās (RA) learned of what had transpired.
Rather than panicking, Ḥaḍrat Ibn `Abbās (RA) warmly seated everyone. He immediately sent for fruit baskets from the market, served them to the guests, and engaged them in conversation to keep them entertained. Simultaneously, he instructed several cooks to prepare a full meal with utmost speed.
Before the guests could even finish eating the fruits, the main meal was ready, and everyone ate to their heart’s content.
Afterward, Ḥaḍrat Ibn `Abbās (RA) asked his treasurer, “Is it feasible for us to host a banquet like this every day?”
The treasurer replied, “Yes, it is possible.”
Upon hearing this, Ḥaḍrat Ibn `Abbās (RA) announced to the gathering:
“A morning banquet will be hosted at my house every day for all of you. Please come daily.”
The Companions (Ṣaḥābah) of the Prophet are indeed guiding stars for the world.
